How We Support Every Student’s Dream

Why Delta Western Invests in All Paths to Success

At Delta Western, we believe there are many paths to success, and they don’t all look the same. Some students pursue a four-year degree. Others build careers in Alaska’s essential industries through technical training and hands-on experience.

For young people across the state, access to education isn’t only about geography. It’s about having the opportunity to pursue practical, career-ready training. That’s why the Delta Western Scholarship for Continuing Education strives to meet students where they are and support where they’re going.

A Broader Vision for Success

Since its launch in 2006, Delta Western’s program has awarded nearly 150 scholarships and invested more than $1 million in education across Alaska. The program's vision is simple but powerful: to support local young adults as they pursue their educational goals, regardless of where they're from or what path they choose.

“Our employees are part of these communities - we live here, our kids go to school here,” said Henry Palmer, President at Delta Western. “We consider this program an investment in the future of Alaska and in the people who will keep it strong.”

In 2023, eligibility criteria for the scholarship were expanded to include youth entering technical schools and two-year programs. This shift formalized what had already been true: that all postsecondary goals deserve support.

Why Technical Education Matters

While the award is open to all eligible learners pursuing higher education, preference is given to those entering fields aligned with Delta Western’s industry sectors.

Skilled workers are in high demand in Alaska and across the United States. Across the U.S., trade fields are growing faster than the national average.

Construction trades across Alaska are expected to grow nearly 10% through 2030. With over $20 billion in infrastructure and development projects planned statewide, we’ll need tens of thousands of additional workers.

Skilled tradespeople are the backbone of Alaska's economy. And for young people across the state, these roles represent more than just job opportunities. They can be pathways to economic mobility and self-sufficiency.

Looking Ahead

By investing in higher education, we’re helping to build the workforce Alaska needs and giving students the support they deserve. From skilled trades to four-year degrees, the Delta Western Scholarship for Continuing Education supports Alaska's next generation of leaders and innovators.
