Truck Driver Appreciation Week: From the Driver’s Seat
Delta Western Truck Driver Steve
We’re sharing three things our drivers wish every customer knew.
Every day across Alaska, Delta Western drivers travel hundreds of miles to deliver fuel safely and reliably. These aren’t just any drivers. They’re experienced, trusted professionals who are sought after industry-wide for their skill and commitment. And they're part of something bigger: local, tight-knit teams who understand the terrain, the weather, and the communities they serve.
At Delta Western, we believe delivering peace of mind is what neighbors do. Since 1984, we’ve grown from a single station in Dutch Harbor to one of Alaska’s leading independent fuel distributors. Today, our drivers deliver more than 200 million gallons of fuel each year across the state, and they do it with care and pride.
Their work is critical, but it often happens behind the scenes. So this month, we’re shining a light on three things your local driver wants you to know.
1. Safety Starts on the Road and at Your Tank
Fuel delivery takes skill, awareness, and teamwork, especially in Alaska. Our team is trained to carefully navigate challenging roads, handle hazardous materials, and make sure your delivery site is accessible and secure.
You can support that work in two key ways:
First, practice mindful driving around our trucks. Give them plenty of space, and remember: if you can’t see the truck’s mirrors, the driver can’t see you.
Second, make sure your tank area is clear of snow, brush, or other obstacles that could slow down or prevent delivery. Need a refresher on tank maintenance? Check out our tips here.
2. We’re Your Neighbors
Our team doesn’t just deliver to your neighborhood. They’re part of it! They know the back roads, recognize your dog, and shop the same grocery aisles. Over time, many of them build lasting connections with the people they serve.
When you see a Delta Western truck rolling through your community, give us a wave. You probably know the person behind the wheel, and we’re proud to know you, too.
3. We Go the Extra Mile
What makes Delta Western drivers stand out isn’t just their training. It’s how they show up when it matters most. Whether it’s helping a customer who slipped on an icy driveway or making a Sunday delivery so a family doesn’t run out of heat, they step in without hesitation.
As one driver in Juneau puts it, “Pride comes from knowing we’re not just delivering fuel—we’re taking care of our community.” Read Steve’s full story here.
Thank You to the Drivers Who Keep Alaska Moving
At Delta Western, we’re proud of the people behind the wheel. Our team is skilled, dependable, and deeply rooted in the communities they serve. They take on long miles, tough conditions, and tight turnarounds with precision and heart.
Since 1985, their dedication has helped us deliver reliable, timely service to customers across Alaska, no matter the season. During Truck Driver Appreciation Week and every week, we’re grateful for the role they play in fueling Alaska and in representing who we are.
If you know a Delta Western driver who has gone above and beyond, we’d love to hear about it. Head over to our Facebook page and give your local driver a shoutout in the comments.
