Fueling Hope, One Gallon at a Time
Delta Western is proud to stand with a young Juneau neighbor and his family
At Delta Western, doing the right thing means being there when our neighbors need us most. That’s why we recently partnered with Cade’s Corner, an organization raising funds to bring hope to families affected by SPG50, a rare degenerative disease.
For every November purchase of home heating oil or fuel at select Delta Western sites in Southeast Alaska, we donated a portion of the proceeds -– raising $11,982 in total — to help four-year-old Cade Jobsis access gene therapy that could change his future.
The Story Behind Cade’s Corner
Before his third birthday, Cade was diagnosed with Spastic Paraplegia 50, or SPG50. It’s a condition so rare that fewer than 100 children worldwide share it. The disease gradually weakens muscles and eventually affects movement, coordination, and cognition.
Cade’s Corner is focused on raising $1.15 million to support hospital and regulatory costs so that Cade can receive treatment as soon as possible. Additional funds raised will help support Cade’s family during the critical treatment journey, covering essential expenses that allow his family to be present and focused on Cade’s care.
Making a Difference
Cade needs our help, and together, we can make a difference. Throughout November, our team donated five cents for every gallon of home heating oil purchased by Southeast Alaska customers and fuel sold at Delta Western sites in Haines, Juneau, Ketchikan, Sitka, and Yakutat.
The proceeds went directly to Cade’s Corner, supporting efforts to administer the gene therapy and to advance research into potential treatments and cures.
Energy That Reaches Further
“As the season of gratitude begins, we’re proud to show what it means to stand together as Alaskans,” said Nelson Bjork, Juneau Site Manager at Delta Western. “Every fill-up contributed to something greater than what’s in the tank. It fuels the possibility of a healthier future for Cade and other children facing SPG50.”
