Before You Head Out

A few reminders before your next summer adventure, from your neighbors at Delta Western

Summer in Alaska means road trips, cabins, fishing weekends, and time outdoors.

Before heading out for your next adventure, a little preparation can help keep both your trip and your home running smoothly. Here’s what’s on our summer checklist to make the most of the season.

Check Road and Weather Conditions

Before a long drive, we always take a look at weather conditions and changes along the route. Summer in Alaska can still bring changing weather, construction delays, smoke, and washouts depending on where you are headed.

A quick check before leaving can make the trip a whole lot smoother once you get moving.

Fuel Up

Anyone who has spent time driving around here knows gas stations are not always close together.

Topping off early is part of our routine, especially for longer drives or remote destinations. It is one less thing to worry about once the weekend officially begins.

Pack For More Than One Forecast

Even in summer, Alaska weather can keep us guessing.

Extra layers, rain gear, snacks, water, backup chargers, and emergency supplies usually make their way into the truck before any trip. Depending on the destination, we may also bring extra tools or communication devices for areas with limited service.

Tell A Neighbor

Trails, cabins, and outdoor recreation areas that are off the beaten path are part of what makes Alaska special. They can also make communication harder once you leave town.

This time of year, we usually let someone know where we are going and when we expect to be back, especially for longer or more “off the grid” trips.

Prepare Your Property

Summer also means wildfire season across many parts of the state. Before leaving home for a few days, we like to spend a little time getting things ready around the property.

That can include clearing dry brush and debris away from structures, moving flammable materials away from buildings, checking outdoor equipment, and making sure things are secure before taking off for the weekend. Check out our full list of tips here.

Make Coming Home Easier

After a fun weekend away, nobody wants to come home and realize their home’s fuel tank is running low.

One way many of our customers stay ahead of that is through automatic fuel delivery. Fuel should be one less thing to think about, whether you are home or out enjoying Alaska during Great Outdoors Month.

Contact your local Delta Western office to learn more about your delivery options and how we can help keep your home ready for whenever the road leads back.
