Keeping Our Capital City Running

Delta Western’s terminal locations serve communities across the state, helping keep homes warm and essential industries running. In Juneau—Alaska’s capital and one of its oldest cities—those services are especially critical. With no road access, it remains the only U.S. state capital reachable only by airplane or boat.

Alaska State Capitol Building

Juneau was established as Alaska’s capital in 1906 and serves as home to the governor, lieutenant governor, and Alaska State Legislature. Decisions made here shape life across the state, impacting communities far beyond the city itself. We’re proud to help keep Juneau running, not just for its residents, but for all Alaskans who rely on the work happening here.

Built in 1931, the Alaska State Capitol stands as a symbol of that responsibility. During the summer tourism season, visitors can choose from three tour options, and a virtual tour is available year-round for anyone who wants to explore from afar.

The Alaska State Museum

Established in 1900, the Alaska State Museum has collected and documented the human and natural history of our state. In 2016, it underwent a major renovation and is now housed with the state libraries and archives. That building, on Whittier Street in Juneau, is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 10am to 4pm.

You can view the XX: Twenty Years of Alaskan Art exhibition there currently, which features the work of contemporary Alaskan artists. It’s also home to more than 23,000 artifacts and works of art. Its permanent exhibits include the Alaska Native Gallery, Foreign Voyagers Exhibit, and an exhibit on World War II.

Here for Juneau

From the beautiful outdoors to the incredible history and culture of our state, it’s no surprise that those of us at Delta Western choose to live and work in Juneau. For more scenic stops in and around Juneau, check out our blog post here.

When it comes to heating homes and businesses in Juneau, our team is here to help. We’re open Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, and can be reached at 907-586-2800.

We’re also proud of our Auke Bay Dock, just 10 minutes from downtown, which provides mariners easy and efficient access to a full range of commercial services and fuel amenities. In addition to high- and low-flow diesel and unleaded fuel—the only facility in Auke Bay to offer both—we stock marine lubricants, fuel additives, coolants, filters, ancillary products, and provide used oil recycling. Learn more about our Auke Bay Dock here.
